Nishioji
Town
House

A five-story complex building located along Nishioji Street in Kyoto City. Due to its location, which is a 5-minute walk from the station, most of the townhouses that once lined the streets have been replaced with mid-to-high-rise buildings. When rebuilding this place, it was requested to make it 4 to 5 stories due to economic demands, but the site is 4m x 16m, which is rectangular and quite small. In addition, it was expected that the use of the floor would change from restaurants and guesthouses to rental housing, depending on the circumstances surrounding this town. Therefore, to make each floor’s program open, the walls are made of concrete, the core of the staircase and elevator is placed in the center, and the windows are evenly spaced. thought of a building. The swaying wall supports such an open program as a minimal structure, bringing diverse viewpoints from the inside to the outside, and at the same time, the rippling exterior becomes the lively movement of Grid City. Just as wooden townhouses used to be, we wanted to create a flexible infrastructure that could be used for workplaces, residences, or complexes of both. I Thought.
